The ‘No Pants’ Trend is Taking over New York Fashion Week

Not too long ago, we reviewed the ‘No Pants’ vibe trending in celebrity streetwear. It is precisely what you think it is - celebrities spotted in fits that give the illusion of no bottoms or wearing alternatives like tights.

So we’re not too surprised that it is one of the trends we see at the Fall 2023 New York Fashion Week.

Many designers have chosen to send models out on the runway with ‘no pants’ looks. Although no two looks are the same, we’re detecting some similar trends.

Jackets & Blazers with All the Leg

One of the common styles we have seen with this trend is oversized jackets or blazers paired with sheer tights and cheeky lingerie-like bottoms or bare legs for an alternative twist on your standard dress.

Christian Siriano sent one of his models out in a black blazer with bright Fuschia lapels. He paired the look with what appeared to be a pair of black, brief-style underwear and sheer black tights.

Jonathan Simkhai sent a model out in a striking patterned blazer. His model graced the carpet in an oversized black and white blazer and no visible bottoms to showcase the legs. Her look was simple and paired with an edgy black combat-style boot.

Dion Lee hopped on this trend with a few different ‘no pants’ looks. He sent out a flashy female model sporting a gray, oversized faux fur puffer jacket with a pair of knee-high silver boots. The look was paired with an exquisite metallic handbag with chain detailing.

The trend made its way into the gender-neutral category when Dion Lee showcased a male model with a very similar look. This model wore a similarly oversized jacket with slightly more masculine detailing. The coat featured dark black leather with khaki-colored faux fur detailing on the neck, shoulders, wrists, pockets, and bottom edging. The thigh-high boots and thick strap that ran from his right shoulder to his left hip completed the look for an edgy introduction to 2023 men's fashion.

Dramatic, Flowing Pieces

Another way we saw this trend expressed was with dramatic, flowing pieces. One of our favorites was from Christian Siriano

He sent out a model in a stunningly romantic yet sexy gown. The dress's neckline was a lovely magenta material that flowed into a black, voluptuous satin ruching feature. The bottom featured a floor-length flowy, sheer black chiffon skirt that left little to the imagination.

The model wore a pair of black briefs underneath, elongating her legs. This look complimented his fall collection perfectly, reigning in the new year with a sexy new trend.

We saw another look that utilized a trench coat to get a flowing look.

Prabal Gurung introduced a patterned long-sleeved halter-style blouse with a plunging neckline. The blouse ends at the hips in the front but continues to have a long trailing train in the back. The look is paired with an animal print trench coat, which adds to the dramatics of the look.

Sexy or Skimpy?

Can it still be the ‘no pants’ trend if the model isn't wearing much of a top?

Shame sent out an abundance of models in simply their briefs and minimal tops or open jackets. Looks like these make us wonder where the line is between having a ‘no pants’ look and having a ‘no clothes’ look.

Don’t get us wrong, we loved the sexy pieces sent out by Shame. But we can't help but wonder, where is the line between the "no pants" streetwear look and lingerie?

You’ll have to let us know.
